I just miss you πŸŒ€ after you've had your baby!

Dear Reader,

When I had my first son, I thought I knew something about the nervous system...I was a yoga teacher and all. πŸ§˜β€β™€οΈ

But really, I knew nothing about MY nervous system. I didn't understand the nervous system in labor and birth, or the nervous system in bonding with our babies, and especially about this DAILY spiritual practice of mothering and how MUCH my nervous system directs this experience!

Well, thankfully I've learned from some amazing women about embodied mothering - the birth part, the postpartum part, the part about how we love ourselves and our bodies and our partners. I learned why home birth was so appealing to me, and why/how it worked for me. I have come to understand that the parts where I feel I "failed" were more a failing of structural systems and that I (we) have just always done our best with the resources we have available.

I learned a lot of this through attending MotherCircle - multiple times. And because I'm the kind of person who learns something and then goes "oh my god, I never knew that! I must now proclaim it for all to know!", I trained to become a MotherCircle Facilitator to share with you what has been game-changing for me! πŸŒ€

MotherCircle is a bit tricky to summarize because it hits at the core of so many untouched surfaces. But here are a few words from other mothers who attended:

I recognize mother circle as a basic community need. I hope our culture can re-embrace these simple practices of spiritual and emotional guidance for all people during our rites of passage. I’m very grateful that Dawn has created a safe and wise space by bringing mother circle to our area.
My favorite part was that the circle time was devoted time to reflect and learn about our intensely personal motherhood journeys. Such a gift.

If you want to get a taste - or dive right in - our first class meets Sept 29, 11:30am and it is a FREE trial class.

A FEW MORE THINGS! You know I love working with mothers so much, and I know that MotherCircle isn't accessible or available to everyone at this time, so I I’ve got a few more options available to you:

I will be offering a free postpartum support group that will meet occasional Fridays (dates TBA).

I am starting a postnatal yoga class that will meet weekly starting October 3. - Thursdays 10-11am at Southside Studio Co-op.

Really, I just want to see you all more often! So I hope you can join me in one or more of these occasions!

Blessings,
Dawn

Just so that you know all the ways I can support you

Dear Reader, As MotherCircle convened again this fall, I am reminded of why I do this work. And of the mission that I am on: to prepare women for labor, birth, and motherhood. It sounds a bit trite or perhaps even unnecessary since our bodies were β€œmade to do it.” What I mean by prepare is not just stretching the body, practicing β€œcomfort measures,” and having all the gadgets, diapers and clothing that you need. I want you to have the resource of inner wisdom so that you know how to listen to...

Dear Reader, Do you remember those last few weeks or months of pregnancy? Maybe there was some urgency to getting everything in place. Maybe there was some discomfort... waddling, needing 4 pillows to sleep at night, couldn't breathe or eat too much, but also perhaps a sense of stillness or closeness with your partner... But once baby came, all of that changed! In an instant! Your world upside down. Does anything feel familiar? I would like to offer something that may have resonance with your...

Dear Reader, I'm going to cut to the chase: how was your birth? Beautiful? Ecstatic? Powerful? Traumatic? Confusing? Not the way you wanted, but you're still ok? Many of these together? Honestly, regardless of how your birth went, we ALL need some level of repair. Help recombobulating. Integrating. This is actually a vital part of the initiation of birth that our culture misses. One of the reasons we struggle so much in postpartum and mothering. MotherCircle is a way to close that gap - to...
