Dear Reader, How is your summer going? For us primary caregivers, summer can be extra! Mine has been full of action - good, fun, social but also exhausting, traumatic and unpleasant. But I've endured, as we do. And I'm grateful that I have so many tools, practices, friends and support systems to move through the heaviest times. The tools and practices that I'm referring to are the skills of being present in my body, knowing how to move and release energy, the ability to recognize when I, as the primary support person, also need help. I have great gratitude for my dear friends and neighbors who can witness me in my chaos - and make strange sounds with me, or take care of my children, or rub my feet, or bring me dinner and supplements and snacks and pajamas. As much of a challenge as summer is for me (in letting it be a time of rest for Sacred Rhythms and focusing on tending the hearth), I am also grateful for the perspective and reflection that the break offers. This week is Lammas - the halfway point between Summer Solstice and Autumn Equinox - which feels like time to start peeking into the fall schedule. (I now officially have a middle schooler!) After marking up my calendar with all of the teacher workdays, holidays and vacations, my fall offerings for you are taking shape. Its not that I want to sell you on my back-to-school agenda, but I do I hope that you mark time on your calendar FOR YOURSELF this fall! Blessings, If you're curious about childbirth education but you're on the fence, or need an example of what it means to practice and embody the skills, check on this free 1-hr birth prep class.Just so that you know all the ways I can support youIf any of this sounds like something a friend would like, please share with your community. Dear Reader, As MotherCircle convened again this fall, I am reminded of why I do this work. And of the mission that I am on: to prepare women for labor, birth, and motherhood. It sounds a bit trite or perhaps even unnecessary since our bodies were βmade to do it.β What I mean by prepare is not just stretching the body, practicing βcomfort measures,β and having all the gadgets, diapers and clothing that you need. I want you to have the resource of inner wisdom so that you know how to listen to...
Dear Reader, Do you remember those last few weeks or months of pregnancy? Maybe there was some urgency to getting everything in place. Maybe there was some discomfort... waddling, needing 4 pillows to sleep at night, couldn't breathe or eat too much, but also perhaps a sense of stillness or closeness with your partner... But once baby came, all of that changed! In an instant! Your world upside down. Does anything feel familiar? I would like to offer something that may have resonance with your...
Dear Reader, When I had my first son, I thought I knew something about the nervous system...I was a yoga teacher and all. π§βοΈ But really, I knew nothing about MY nervous system. I didn't understand the nervous system in labor and birth, or the nervous system in bonding with our babies, and especially about this DAILY spiritual practice of mothering and how MUCH my nervous system directs this experience! Well, thankfully I've learned from some amazing women about embodied mothering - the birth...
